My sis came for a visit this past fall-- we took a day trip to Estes. It was a little windy, as you can tell, but it was a beautiful day.in these two photos of Mandy and Jane, they are standing in the same place. I took the first picture standing far away (20 feet, I'd guess), but zoomed in.
For the second shot, I was standing close to Mandy and Jane (maybe 5 feet away), but my lens was zoomed all the way out.
One isn't necessarily better than the other-- it just depends on what you're wanting to capture. The first shot shows the enormity of the mountains, and makes them feel close, whereas the second shot gives a more realistic perception of depth.
