The Abundant Life

As I opened up my computer and pondered how to begin my first blogpost for 2012, a quote from my homepage--www.lds.org--caught my eye.
"At the advent of a new year, I challenge Latter-day Saints everywhere to undertake a personal, diligent, significant quest for what I call the abundant life—a life filled with an abundance of success, goodness, and blessings."
This month's First Presidency Message from our prophet, Thomas S. Monson offers the perfect inspiration for a new year; Have a positive Attitude, Believe in yourself, face challenges with Courage.

With Christmas celebrations wrapped up and decorations cleaned up, a wonderful family vacation and celebration of my sister Camille's wedding completed, I feel ready to take on a new year.

A few things I look forward to in 2012:
* Making steady progress toward debt reduction. It has been a long road of living on student loans and planning for the day when we would actually not be "in the red". It feels good to finally be making some headway in knocking out debt. I am glad that Derek is my partner in this, and I am so grateful for prophets' wise counsel to "live within our means". Trying to be fiscally responsible and learning how to live providently feels good.
* Serving in Primary. I was called into the Primary presidency last summer but I feel like we are finally getting into a good groove, and of course a fresh start with the new year is helpful.
* Getting into good physical shape. It always seems to take about a year after having a baby before I feel strong and energetic again.
* Creating a comfortable, organized home. The dust is finally settling from our move (a year and a half ago!) and I'm constantly tweaking organizational spaces to ensure they work with the flow of our daily life. I am bound and determined to conquer 5 mini-mess-making-machines and convert them into parts of a well-organized-machine. :)
* Gardening! Last year was my trial run, and although it turned out great (lots of squash, tomatoes, herbs, onions) I have learned a lot and will have an improved garden this year. (begin seedlings early, put in a sprinkler system, use more space).

But beyond all of these "to-do's", I want to focus on "to-be's"
* a loving and supportive wife
* a patient, kind, understanding, nurturing mother
* a loyal, outgoing, optimistic friend, sister, daughter

I am so grateful for the abundance Heavenly Father has already given me. I hope to be able to effectively use the blessings I have been given to bless the lives of those around me.

Great post, Britt! We sure enjoyed visiting with you guys during your vacation. The kiddos loved hanging out with their cousins, as always, and are already asking when the Weavers are coming back. Hope you guys enjoyed Disney & Lego Land. You need to post pics from the trip so we can see all the fun. Wish you guys were still in Colorado so we could ski with you next week! Talk to you soon I hope.
