This year for Christmas we decided to give our kids an experience. I am learning that experiences are a gift to myself as well, not only because experiences don't clutter up the toy closet or because I can't trip over experiences as I walk up the basement stairs, but because experiences are opportunities to bond as a family and create memories that all of us will last longer than any plastic trinket "Made in China".
We got to travel to Arizona for my sweet sister Cami's wedding to Drew right after Christmas. We enjoyed time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and then we made a quick trip to California for one day at Legoland, one day at Disneyland.
We had never been to Legoland and so for the boys, this was a dream-come-true. I'm glad we went this year when Ethan, Reid, and Luke are all still Lego-Maniacs. Ethan still doesn't believe that there will come a day when he is no longer so amused by these fascinating toys. Well, maybe that's not entirely true. Derek still indulges once a year-- usually at Christmas--in assembling a new Lego set for several hours.

Grandma Nancy & Papa Randy even joined us! Family vacations with the help of loving grandparents are unbeatable!
