Cousins

I am so thrilled that my Hatch side of the family is beginning to reproduce. Derek and I began having children when we were practically children ourselves (we have known each other since we were 12; by the time we were married at 21 and 22, having children seemed like the next logical thing to do!) There have been some definite perks to our situation. Like aunts and uncles who dote on our children. (I wonder if they will notice a sharp decline in Christmas gifts when they are no longer the only kids to spoil). My youngest brother, Matt, is closer in age to Ethan than he is to me-- so I can't exactly complain that they haven't had anyone to play with when we visit.

But at Christmas it was really exciting to see Siena, the first and only Hatch cousin so far, old enough to play with our kids. It is so cute to see cousins interact, particularly these two girls who don't have sisters. Siena really blossomed while we visited; she is no longer "Scared [of] baby Joe!" and Nick & Jenna's routine of reading family picture books at bed time has paid off-- she knew and called all of us by name. What's even more exciting is knowing that Sisi will soon be a big sister!

With all but one of their children married now, Grandma and Grandpa had better brace themselves for what could be a torrential downpour of grand babies!

I think Siena will feel like a celebrity when I show her this post! Glad we can contribute to the cousins- hope there are many more to come {just most of them from other people :)}
